Papilio Amaryllis
by Barbara Barrick McKie

57.5" w. x 72" h.
An unusual flower, the Papilio Amaryllis attracted me as a subject because of the beautiful maroon stripes. I grew this one to flower in January of 2004. Machine appliqued disperse polyester on hand dyed cotton sateen. Extensively free-motion quilted. The inner, darker color is quilted in free organic shapes and swirls, while the lighter outer border is quilted in straight line angular patterns.
