Jamming

78" w. x 63" h.
Jamming started with a pattern from a spider web and took shape as I tried to arrange my pieces in an interesting fashion. I was constantly listening to different kinds of ethnic music as I free-motion quilted the piece. Thus, like a jam session, each part started with a central theme but took on a life of it's own as variations were tried. A principle of art is to have unity but with variation, just like a jam session. This quilt won 2nd Prize for "Best Use of Color" at the 1999 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival.
